Do you like money? Are you funny? Can you write? If so, you might want to consider entering the GW Patriot’s “I Like Free Money” Humor Contest.
How much money? $200. That’s two hundred different items at the Dollar Tree or like 10% of your DC rent.
“How do I get it?” WIN. The first place prize is $200, second place is $50 and third place gets a (still respectable ) $25.
Submit your NON-FICTION humor post (not a story for ‘The Onion’) to editor@gwpatriot.com by April 12th at 8 a.m. (crunch time!) and make sure the topic is GW, Foggy Bottom or just DC in general. Again, the story must be TRUE to a journalistic standard. Questions about standards can be directed to zacharyg@gwu.edu.
The judging will be blind (not the judges, though – they can see.) We are looking for the best all-around writing/humor/witty trifecta.
SO GO FLY CHILDREN! Go out and write. There’s no entry fee, so we’ll have to limit each person to only one entry. If you have written for us on a freelance basis or have written for us in the past, you are still eligible. Only judges are barred from entry.
Any submissions without the name or full contact information of a student or alumnus will be ceremoniously burned with my torch lighter. Because that’s more fun than throwing it out.
Please submit in .docx or .doc format and be between 500 and 1000 words. Once you submit, we retain the right to post your piece regardless of whether or not you win. Pieces will be edited for technical errors, not content. We plan on posting the top ten pieces, but are open to posting more if they are awesome.
SO GO BE AWESOME! We look forward to laughing at you.
